A Talk With Joss Stone
Joss Stone performed this weekend at the InterContinental Doha. If you didn’t catch her concert, we’ve got the scoop on the artist and her future projects!
What kind of show can we expect from you in Doha?
I think it’s just myself and Leon playing guitar. Just singing some little.
You bring soul music back, who is your biggest music influence?
Betty Right. She taught me a lot when I was young so it was hard not to be influenced by her .
And how do you feel about the representation of soul music today? Is it still represented?
I think so . It depends where you look.
Tell us a little bit about ‘Project Mama Earth.’ How was the process and working with other four musicians?
It was lovely and simple we just let each other get on with our part in it easy peasy and enjoyable.
You’re very big on giving back, you have the Joss Stone Foundation that supports more than 200 charities across the globe. Have you always been passionate on raising awareness and supporting charities?
The foundation was set up to make it easy for people to help the charities that we promote. We have found these charities along the road of our total world tour. Some of them have brilliant set up. And some of them need a little bit of help. Some of them take volunteers.
Some of them meet donations. Some need awareness. Some just need love and a cuddle. Some just need to be able to carry on doing the work that they do. If we can help in anyway we’re trying to do that. Whether that means collecting donations for them and making sure it gets to the right people. Or sending out a little helper. Or just spreading the word far and wide. What ever it is we just try to help where we can.
How does it feel to perform your music today and realize how much of an impact it’s had on so many people?
It’s nice to know that there is a point to all of this.
Who stands out in music today according to Joss Stone?
It depends what day it is. There are a lot of amazing artists out there and they don’t just exist in the USA and the UK.
